Rinse the rice before cooking.
If possible, toast it in olive oil, add salt, and cover with 3 times as much water as the amount of rice.
Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and cover.
Cooking brown rice takes longer than white rice; the gluten-free Hungarian brown rice is ready in 35-40 minutes.
Extra tip: You can use brown rice not only as a side dish but also as a soup ingredient.
Frequently asked questions about Valoryz brown rice
What is γ-oryzanol and why is it only found in brown rice?
γ-oryzanol is an antioxidant naturally found in the bran layer of brown rice, which has a beneficial effect on cholesterol levels and has anti-inflammatory properties. This valuable compound remains in brown rice because the bran layer is not removed during processing, unlike white rice, from which it is almost completely removed during milling.
Can people with celiac disease and gluten sensitivity eat Valoryz brown rice?
Yes, our brown rice is gluten-free, and in the Szarvas processing facility it does not come into contact with other gluten-containing grains. Therefore, it can be safely consumed not only by those with gluten sensitivity but also by people with celiac disease, and can be incorporated as a complete ingredient into a gluten-free diet.
How long should brown rice be cooked, and how can I check if it is done?
Cooking Valoryz brown rice takes 35–40 minutes on low heat, covered – this is much longer than the cooking time for white rice, because the bran layer slows the penetration of water into the grain. Brown rice is done when small holes appear on the surface of the rice grains, the water has been completely absorbed, and the grains are soft but not overcooked. After cooking, remove the lid and let it rest for 5 minutes.
