Cooking organic millet – step by step
Rinse the millet before cooking.
If possible, toast it in olive oil for 1–2 minutes, not for the flavor, but so the grains separate and acquire a nuttier, fuller aroma.
Add salt, cover with three times the amount of water, bring to a boil, then cover and reduce to the lowest heat.
Ready in 15–20 minutes.
Extra tip: Valoryz organic millet does not need to be soaked beforehand or specially treated for bitterness, because our millet is not bitter. You can use organic millet not only as a side dish, but also as a thickener and soup ingredient, and it makes particularly delicious millet porridge with milk or plant-based drinks.
Frequently asked questions about Valoryz organic millet
What is the difference between millet and rice in terms of nutritional content?
Both are gluten-free grains, but their nutritional profiles differ significantly. Valoryz organic millet contains 14.3 g of protein and 8.1 g of fiber per 100 grams, while brown rice contains approximately 7–8 g of protein and 6.3 g of fiber in the same amount. Millet therefore provides nearly twice as much protein and a third more fiber. In addition, millet is richer in calcium, iron, and magnesium than rice, making it particularly valuable for those following a plant-based diet and those mindful of protein intake.
Can celiacs consume Valoryz organic millet?
Yes, millet is naturally gluten-free, so it can be incorporated into the diet of celiacs and those with gluten sensitivity. Valoryz organic millet is grown in organic farming under conditions certified by Biokontroll Hungária.
What uses does millet have that differ from rice?
Millet is more versatile than many people think. As a side dish, it works just as well as rice, but beyond that, it has many other uses. It can be made into sweet or savory millet porridge for breakfast, used to thicken soups, added to salads, used in stuffed peppers and cabbage instead of rice, and it also works excellently as a binder in patties and vegan meatballs. Due to its neutral flavor, Valoryz organic millet can be seasoned both savory and sweet, fitting Mediterranean, Eastern, and Hungarian flavor profiles alike.
